Amanda Howard

In May 2018 I received the Graduate Student Contribution to Community Life Award for my contributions to the Brown University community.

Applied Mathematics Undergraduate/Graduate Mentoring Program

I co-founded and organized the Applied Mathematics Undergraduate/Graduate Mentoring Program in the Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown. Undergraduate students concentrating in Applied Math (or planning to concentrate, if they have not yet declared) are paired with graduate students with similar interests for an academic year.

Brown-ICERM-Kobe Simulation Summer School

I served as a team leader for the 2015 Brown-ICERM-Kobe Summer School in high performance computing. Our project focused on numerically calculating the molecular orbitals for chemical reactions.

Outreach and Service

In 2013 I founded the Brown University Student Chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics. Free memberships to AWM are available to all Brown students actively interested in participating in the student chapter. The goal of the student chapter of AWM at Brown is to provide a connection between undergraduate and graduate students. We provide mentoring for students considering applying to graduate school, internships, fellowships, and summer research experience, as well as midterm and final review sessions for Applied Mathematics and Mathematics courses. Please email awm@brown.edu for more information and to find out about the weekly meetings.
